Homemade Washing Detergent

6.14.2012

Shredded cheese? No.  .  . Shredded soap! And it has kept my house smelling so fresh for about 3 weeks now.
EASY recipe:

  • 1 4lb box Baking Soda
  • 3 bars Fels Naptha soap shredded (I used a cheese grater)
  • 1 3lb box washing soda
  • 1 4lb box of Borax
All these can be found at Wal-Mart on the detergent aisle.

You only use 2 tablespoons per load, and the website I found this on says that it cost about 18 cents per load.

I love it! So far, it has made my house smell awesome. It's gentle enough to wash everyone's clothes with (no more separate loads for baby).  It doesn't leave a strong perfume smell on the clothes. It's NOT  a huge stain fighter, so if you have any spots, I suggest giving them a pre-scrub.
